Flood cleanup

July 14, 2024

Update - 7/13/24 at 11:37a.

The dumpsters, for flood items only, will remain until Wednesday, 7/24, which is our next council meeting. Another curbside pickup happened Friday morning, 7/12, and that may be the final flood pickup.

It helps reduce our costs if you bring your flood damaged items to the dumpsters by the evening of Thursday, July 11, or to have your items on the curb for the early Friday pickup.

Reminder, no appliances. Landfill will take those directly for a $15 fee, or you can save them for regular clean-up week in Sept.

The City Council met Monday, 6/24. Here is the link. The video for the meeting is linked at the top.

Update - 6/24/24 at 12:25p: We are aware that some of you may not have your items ready for pickup on 6/27 due to insurance adjusting, labor availability, etc. There will be another round, the deadline isn’t confirmed. We just ask that you set your items out as soon as possible, preferrably by July 7.

Update - 6/24/24 at 10:40a: The dumpsters have been delivered to east side of City Park. Remember, NO APPLIANCES, ELECTRONICS, TIRES, CONCRETE, PAINTS, etc (see below).

Update - 6/25/24 at 9:15a: Hooray, we found two contractors for curbside flood recovery pickup. We are asking everyone to do their best to have their stuff (flood items only) curbside by Thursday morning, June 27 (preferably on concrete – we will not repair lawns). We realize this isn’t much time, but many people have already pulled their stuff out so we want to get started.

Curbside pickup to begin Thursday, June 27. Boer & Sons will start from the east and ID Excavating from the west.

Here is the link to the info on curbside pickup and community dumpsters. Stay tuned for further updates. There are now two large dumpsters on the east side of City Park.

For curbside pickup, please have your items out by Thursday morning, June 27.

Remember, NO APPLIANCES, ELECTRONICS, TIRES, CONCRETE, PAINTS, etc (see below).

Outcomes:

  • We are collecting quotes for curbside pickup for flood-caused debris at no direct cost to you. Time frames not determined but will be ASAP. Contractors are very busy, stay tuned for pickup times. No sign-ups necessary and no flags needed. We ask that you please respect this service and the situation process by not placing non-flood items out for collection. We have a regular clean-up week coming in a few months.
  • Two large 6-ft Rolloff dumpsters will be placed on east side of City Park on Tuesday morning, 6/25. This is for city residents only, and the more you can put in the dumpsters the easier the curbside process will be.
  • City will not be responsible for damage to your lawn if you choose to use curbside.
  • Please do not set out non-flood items. Regular clean-up week is coming in September.
  • Loose garbage and disintegrated and loose debris (IE sheetrock) can’t go by the curb. Items such as food (even if it’s in bags) should be thrown in the dumpsters and not set by the curb.
  • If the dumpsters are full, do not set items on the ground at City Park.

ITEMS THAT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP OR ALLOWED IN THE DUMPSTERS:

  1. HAZARDOUS, TOXIC MATERIALS, OR LIQUIDS of any kind. State guidelines classify batteries, paint, thinner, stains, gas, oil, insecticides, pesticides, etc. as hazardous or toxic waste.

Includes: Air Conditioners, Clothes Washer/Dryers, Dehumidifiers, Humidifiers, Freezers, Furnaces, Stoves, Microwaves, Dishwashers, Refrigerators, Water Heaters, Softeners, Computer Towers, Monitors, Printers, TV’s, DVD/VCR Players, Copiers, Electric Grills, Vacuums, Organs, Electronic Keyboards, etc.
